Biography

Sara Van Weelden is an active pianist and teacher who has played piano for over eighteen years. She holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance from Indiana Wesleyan University, where she studied piano with Dr. Phoenix Park-Kim, Dr. Daniel Lin, and Professor Todd Williams. She has additionally studied Taubman Technique with Anna Reiser and Dr. Teresa Dybvig. Because of her training in Taubman Technique, Sara is particularly passionate about helping students play piano with proper technique and without tension, preventing discomfort and injuries so music making can be a lifelong enjoyment. In 2018, Sara completed certificates in early childhood education through the Department of Children and Families. She has experience as a classroom preschool teacher.
Sara received pedagogical experience and supervision through teaching at the Indiana Wesleyan University Music Academy. She has teaching experience in Indiana, Zambia, and Wisconsin. Sara also currently adjudicates for Wisconsin School Music Association Solo and Ensemble Festivals.
She loves encouraging and inspiring hope in students of all ages through music, and she strives to teach students of all levels musical expression and a holistic music education. Sara also enjoys composing and arranging solo piano music.
